Department of Student Support (DSS)

The DSS serves the needs of students with unique and diverse learning styles. It provides support services to students, teachers and parents to facilitate students' integral growth through achievement of academic and/or social success. DSS services are provided by qualified staff, who assess students' needs and direct the design and implementation of Individual Educational Plans (IEP) and Parent Involvement Programs.
DSS provides assistance for students showing:
- Outstanding abilities and high performance
- Difficulties in fine and gross motor development
- Difficulties in orientation to time and space
- Difficulties in an academic area
- Need for emotional stability or appropriate social skills
- Need to adjust to a new environment in the case of new students

Educational Technologies

The Educational Technology Department recognizes the potential of technology to change education and improve student learning but also acknowledges the risks that come with the technology. Students should demonstrate a proficient and ethical use of the technologies available to them for academic and personal purposes.

Library

The Colegio Inglés Library provides a friendly and helpful environment with approximately 11,000 volumes including fiction and non-fiction books, resource books for teachers, encyclopedias in English and Spanish, other reference materials and subscriptions to periodicals and magazines for teachers and students.
The library is open for students and teachers from Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

After School Activities

Students from KI through 9th grades participate in our co-curricular activities during the afternoons. At the beginning of the school year parents and students receive information regarding the activities available as well as the schedules for the school year. After School Sports Students from KI to 9th grade participate in our track and field, basketball and soccer teams. Registration on Welcome Back to School Day. During the school year in the sports office. Choir, Color Guard, and Color Guard Drummers Selected students from Preprimary, 3rd, 6th, and 9th grades are invited to participate in the Color Guard of their Division. Some Preprimary students are selected to accompany the Preschool Color Guard on drums. Some students in Preprimary are invited to participate in the Choir, which is directed by the PS Music Teacher after school. Co-Curricular Activities Co-Curricular Clubs complement Elementary and Middle School students' classroom experiences. On Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., they offer an enjoyable atmosphere in which to apply academic and social skills while practicing creativity, forming friendships, and building school spirit. Co-Curricular clubs typically offered include Drama, Choir, Ensemble, Arts & Crafts, Cultural Clubs, United Nations and Math Counts among others.

Science Labs

Science labs provide Elementary and Middle School students with opportunities to become involved in hands-on activities that permit them to apply the practices and processes that scientists engage in as they carry out investigations. Teachers research the activities, and guide and interact with students as they make observations; pose questions; formulate hypotheses; gather, record and analyze data; and suggest and communicate conclusions.

Bus Service

Parents interested in bus service may contract directly with an outsourcing company. All school rules and appropriate attitude and behavior apply to riding school bus.

Cafeteria
|
|
The cafeteria gives meal and snack service to the school community according to the following schedule:
Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Saturday 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
For afternoon activities, food cards may be purchased at the cafeteria. Monthly menus are available through Internet and are posted outside the cafeteria. Preschool students bring their lunch and eat inside the classrooms with teachers' supervision to ensure that students eat and to avoid handling money.

Infirmary

The Health Service is under the responsibility of a doctor (pediatrician) and a nurse. The purpose of this department is to provide students and staff timely attention to any minor accident or sudden illness that may occur at our facilities.
The doctor/nurse provides first aid, addresses simple health needs, and attends to emergencies during the following schedule:
Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.
Saturday 8:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Services Provided:
- First Aid treatment including painkillers, cough syrups, anti-acids, etc.
- Temperature check
- Blood pressure check
- Hearing evaluation
- Eyesight evaluation

Accident Inssurance
|
|
The school has purchased a school accident insurance policy through which covers students during house-school-house transportation; their normal school activities; and other school social, cultural and sports events locally or nationwide. The doctor or nurse will inform parents of the procedure to be followed in filing a claim. The insurance institution will be the sole responsible party against any claim.
