Social-Emotional & Well-being

Values Program

Institutional values are a reference and guide for our behavior as individuals and as a community. On this basis, the Values Program was developed to promote character education, motivate students to make judicious decisions, assume responsibility for their actions, contribute to the well-being of individuals and groups, and respect their cultural legacy as well as that of others.

This program is planned, executed, measured, and improved with a preventive approach for the child´s protection and attention to the needs of the CI community.

As educators and adults, we are responsible for being role models of ethical behaviors, and we help shape the children’s character. Students learn from the language we use, the actions we take, the conduct we tolerate, the deeds we encourage, and the expectations we transmit. Our students’ experiences in our school community determine their ability to develop the moral and intellectual strengths that will guide them in becoming responsible citizens of the world.

Habits of the Heart

(PS and LE)

The Habits of the Heart are attitudes and values that have the potential to enhance children’s self-esteem, enabling them to develop respectful and caring relationships with others.

The extent to which these values are modeled by the community and integrated into daily instruction reflects our priority on students’ personal, social, and emotional development. These habits are taught explicitly and are implicit in subject area curricula, co-curricular activities, and daily interactions.

Our commitment is to model these values integrated into curricular planning, daily interactions, and co-curricular activities for our students’ personal, social, and emotional development.

Habits of Mind

(UE and MS)

Habits of Mind, identified in the research of Dr. Arthur Costa, are intelligent behaviors and dispositions which, when practiced, promote academic, professional, and social effectiveness. These habits are taught explicitly and are implicit in subject area curricula, extra-curricular activities, and daily interactions.

Our commitment is to model and transfer intelligent behaviors and dispositions and integrate them into curricular planning, daily interactions, and co-curricular activities for our students’ personal, social, and emotional development.

Environmental Education

Fostering students’ ecological awareness through teaching-learning and promoting responsible behavior toward preserving our campus and community environments are crucial educational endeavors.

Our commitment is to develop ecological awareness so that students, as global citizens, assume attitudes and values that protect the environment.

Community Service

Through community service, students learn beyond the classroom enriching their personal and academic development and reinforcing their values. The school recognizes the benefits these efforts bring to the community and promotes students’, staff, and parents’ awareness about the needs of others.

Our commitment is to intentionally and in a planned way promote community service activities to foster empathy with the environment and civic responsibility in students, transferring the values and the curricular program learned in the classroom to daily life.

We believe that with engagement, challenges, and support from caring staff and assertive parents, our students will emerge as thoughtful, passionate life-long learners.
